Gold Rush Premium 4 lb Paydirt with .81 gram of gold

Dirt Hogg Paydirt - 1 lb with .29 gram of gold

We thought we'd give Dirt Hogg a second chance since it gets good reviews.

We paid $29.99 Cdn.+ $15 shipping and taxes = $45 Cdn or $34 US

OK, disappointed so far.

We found .29 grams of gold and maybe .01 gram of fines...

National Geographic Rock Tumbler $ 45

We actually picked up this little National Geographic Rock Tumbler as a trade for an old iPhone Speaker at a Neighbourhood Garage Sale.

It comes with several oz of rough semi Precious stones including green, yellow, red jasper and others. We'll post results and video below.

We have been tumbling for the past 2 days and already the rocks are very smooth and brilliant.

Great for 2 young rock hounds !

Three nice sized pickers. Klinkers ... they go "clink" in the pan.

I'd say about $2 worth of gold. So we know that Felix has good gold in their Gourmet gold.

How to Calibrate then test your Digital Scale.

OK, so I found this super great awesome Digital Scale on Amazon.com that can weigh my fine gold, flakes and nuggets for only $9.29, but I forgot to buy the 100 gram weight  ($3.42) to calibrate.

In the mean time I was able to use some 1 Troy OZ Silver Maple Leafs (3 Maple Leafs + 1 Cdn quarter and 1 Cdn penny) as weight to add up to 100.06 grams. After Calibrating, using the instructions on the lid of my super, great, awesome Digital Scale I then checked several coins just to make sure I was getting good readings. And indeed I am.

Check these out:

US Dime = 2.26 g                                  Cdn Dime = 1.74 g             Cdn quarter = 4.44g

Now, I should be able to determine if that tiny flake of gold is .25 of a gram or not !

Gold Rush PayDirt Review (1) - 1/4 gram of gold

So we panned 1 lb of Gold Rush Paydirt and found 18 small flakes weighing approximately 1/4 g gold   (available on Amazon.com) We will repan the dirt to see if we find any more ....So far the small nuggets are a good size and easy enough to pick up with tweezers and make a little clunk sound when dropped in the pan.

Panning 1 lb of Paydirt on the kitchen floor. In the dead of winter, with 4 ' of snow on the ground, this is the only way to go.

Believe me, there is nothing I'd love more than to be out on a Claim prospecting for Gold, but here in Northern Canada we still have a month or more before the snow melts and the earth begins to thaw. Snowed Inn - Panning for Gold in Canada, in the month of March !

Can you believe they are still calling for Major Snow Storms on the North East, US and Canada ? It is almost the middle of March !!! What is a Prospector to do ? OK, we dig out the sled, build a  fire next to the criek and melt the earth; we chisel away with a pick axe until a few grains of sand begin the break apart. We haul the bits of frozen earth back to the cabin where we have a sled with hot water..... we melt the bits of ice from the stream and we pan for gold. Then we go drink inside, drink  hot chocolate and warm up to go back out.
